.my not-so-brief online history.

I got online in autumn of 1996, and made my first website a few months later. I can’t remember whether it was the Dark Skies site, or the Star Trek one, that I made first. I just know they were both online by the early 1997. And then I made several more. I was involved much the same fandoms as I am now: Star Trek, Xena, Dark Skies, Jeri Ryan, Oded Fehr. Some newer fandoms have been added since. I make websites, graphic work like wallpapers and icons, and have written some fanfic.

For several years I used various free hosts to host my sites, until I in 2003 I bought my very first domain landofdreams.net and at the same time, get my first paid hosting account. I hosted all my sites in subdomains of landofdreams.net for a couple of years.

In 2005, I dumped landofdreams.net and bought crystalfires.net. Around the same time I first registered oded-fehr.net for my Oded Fehr fansite, and then jeri-ryan.net for my Jeri Ryan fansite, while all my other sites continued to operate from crystalfires.net subdomains.

In late 2008, my account had grown too big for Dreamhost to keep on their shared hosting plan. I didn’t and don’t have steady income so I can’t and couldn’t afford a virtual server. I moved all my sites twice, first to one host, but they weren’t good/deleted me only after a month or so. They did not like big fansites ๐Ÿ™ย  And then to a second host, with same results. This is what now called the hosting disaster of 2008. Lost everything, had to reupload everything on every site. I aimed to get my most important site, Jeri Ryan, Oded Fehr and The Mummy sites back online. At this point, _snitchbitch @ Livejournal offered to host me, and she saved several of my sites from death by hosting them. But I wasn’t totally happy, felt guilty using another person’s account, and I wasn’t in a position to buy hosting anywhere at the time. So I decided to apply for hosting at fan-sites.org, for my Jeri Ryan site. Happily, I got accepted, and after that, over the next 12 months or so, gradually all my sites were accepted for hosting there. I’ve been with fan-sites.org ever since, and couldn’t beย  happier hosting wise ๐Ÿ™‚

Back in the late 90s/early00s, I didn’t talk much. I mostly lurked on forums and only posted when I had something of substance to say. And I preferred to send feedback about fanfic by e-mail, rather than leave it in a public place such as a forum. I mainly participated by sharing things like wallpapers and making sites to show my love for the subject. I’m not a very social creature by nature, and it takes effort to do talking and posting and such. Sometimes more, sometimes less. I’d heard a lot about Livejournal but wasn’t interested in it although I did get an account in 2005 because I fanfic writers started to post their fanfic only in their Livejournals.

When I explored Livejournal after that, I saw a lot people posted screencaps about anything, and that was the defining factor why I got into Livejournal, and started to use my own LJ too. I still didn’t talk – I tended to reply to comments my screencap posts go only if they asked something, because replying “You’re welcome! :)” to dozen people felt both stupid and redundant.

Around the same time, I started to cautionally leave feedback on the fics posted on LJ in the comments even though I still made zero personal posts myself. It seemed awfully difficult at first, but now I’m pretty good at it ๐Ÿ™‚ Sadly, now there’s not that much fanfic that I read, especially since I’m not really into slash. If I could be as into into slash than I am into het, it’d be greatย  ๐Ÿ™ Seems like most people have moved on but I’m still stuck on the same characters and fandoms I was a decade ago ๐Ÿ™ Being loyal to a fandom or characters has its drawbacks when other people move on to newer fandoms.

Anyway, I had started to make very occasional personal posts about my job (or lack of it), or about something that pissed me off by the time June 2008 rolled about. June 2008 forever be notable point in my life, because that was when I started to make really personal posts about my health. Posts that a year before I wouldn’t had dreamed of making for all the world to see, no matter what.

Long story short, I’ve been having migraine-like headaches for as far back as I can remember. It was never diagnosed, or shown any attention to by the doctors, nurses, school etc. and the parents didn’t really understand how bad it was and how often, because I was so used to waking up at middle of the night to a horrible headache that I did not wake them anymore. I knew they couldn’t help me, couldn’t make it go away, and I couldn’t stand them fussing about me. I just wanted to be in peace, in darkness and quiet so it’d go away. I’d tell them later I had had one again, but telling isn’t the same as living through it with me each and every time. So they didn’t really know how it was.

Anyway, the end result was that I ended up taking way too much over-the-counter, especially after I moved to another town to study when I was 17. With all the requirements and exams and such, I started to take them before it came just to be sure that I wouldn’t have a bad headache on when I had take an exam, or write my final big work to graduate. And it jsut went on from there. All until June 2008 when I was hospitalized because my hemoglobin dropped so severely. The reason suspected for the drop internal bleeding caused by overuse of over-the-counter medicine I’d been taking for the headaches for almost two decades.

It turned out not to be that, but the scare was enough that for the first time in my life I felt the need to tell my story, just incase it would prevent even one other person from doing to same. And since then I’ve been continuing chronicling, partly for my own use (I can check back for the dates! and what happened), partly because I feel that once started, it’d be unfair not tell people how it turns out.

Anyway, June 2008 started the whole health-problem-thing that’s still going to this day. Some things have gone, other things have come to replace them, but at the moment things are fairly ok. The good thing that resulted from the hospital scre trip was that I finally got to see a neurologist, got a diagnosis (it’s a text book case of non-aura migraine, apparently), and the treatment is undergoing. The migraine isn’t completely under control, but it’s so much better than it was even just 6 months ago.

Not going to talk more about it here, the whole thing is chronicled and detailed in this tag at my Dreamwitdth.

The reason I told that health stuff just now, is that if it hadn’t happened like it did, this page wouldn’t exist now. Very likely, this site wouldn’t exist as it is today. Because I would not say a word about anything that affects me deeply, whether it’s health of job or whatever. Whereas now I do… Sometimes LOL

And now to happier things… ๐Ÿ™‚

.things am extremely fannish about.

These are the subjects of my most fannish efforts, or because they keep making me think. I’m also usually always looking for new fanfic and fanart to devour.

Actors & Actresses: Oded Fehr. Jeri Ryan. Rachel Weisz. James Morrison. Morena Baccarin. Tricia Helfer.

Movies: The Mummy and The Mummy Returns.

TV: Lost. Battlestar Galactica. Xena Warrior Princess. Law & Order (all). Star Trek (all). Dark Skies. Stargate: Atlantis (Wraith-related only), Space: Above And Beyond. Teen Wolf.

Characters: Ardeth Bay. Evelyn Carnahan. Anck-su-Namun. Meela. Seven Of Nine. Ba’al. Juliet Stuart. Phil Albano. Todd the Wraith. T.C. McQueen. Derek Hale. Lydia Martin.

In addition I enjoy a lot of British shows and movies, especially thrillers/cop shows and historical costume dramas. A few examples include Inspector Morse (cop show) and Aristocrats (historical costume drama). And my sense of humor is definitely more in line with with British shows – favorites include The Fawlty Towers, Black Adder, Keeping Up Appearances and many others) – than US sitcoms (only ones I’ve ever rewatched and/or collected are Get Smart original tv series), Soap and Sledge Hammer!)

The best way to find all the sites I run is to visit My Sites page – there are links to all my sites there.

.creative pursuits.

I make wallpapers, icons and have written some fan fiction. These all are posted at my creative site Crystal Dreams. Starting March 2011, all updates made to will be automatically crossposted here. Ever since the health stuff started, I have had problems being creative, but I hope it’ll change in the future. Especially writing, I’d like the write something again. And I miss making wallpapers.

.capping.

TV series and movies I cap tend to be long-time favorites or develop into such, and they just grab me from the beginning and don’t let me go. I may lose active interest for a year or more, but always find myself coming back.

The last couple of years I’ve really gotten into capping HD, but I still do DVDs when HD isn’t available. I don’t cap from VHS or standard definition TV broadcasts practically at all anymore, and even more rarely use the small avi versions.

Propably the best way to find all my caps is to go to Fading Tomorrow, my screencaps site. It has up-to-date links to all my screencaps. From March 2011, all updates there will be automatically crossposted to this site.
